This is something you have seen on a couple of Mercedes Benz vehicles. But what does it actually mean. Is it just another fancy jargon for AWD or 4WD. 4MATIC is actually more complex, or should I say smarter than an ordinary AWD system.
Conventional AWD systems allow the driver to select which pair of wheels he wants to use, the front, rear or all 4 wheels. The 4MATIC system uses a computer to determine how much power to give the tires depending on the situation. For example you get more power to the front wheels when on high speed. You get more power to the rear wheels when in fast corners. etc..
