Microsoft has released the second generation of its tablet PC, The Surface. The 2nd Gen tablets are also of two models just like the first ones. These are the Surface RT which is ARM based and runs Windows RT and the Surface Pro which is a full X86 based computer running the proper desktop version of Windows.
The Surface 2 will run the new Windows 8.1 which provides more personalization and improved performance among others.

The Surface 2

The Surface 2 is the new Surface RT. It is an ARM based Windows Tablet powered by the new  NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor. This processor is almost twice as powerful as its predecessor. The new Surface RT is thinner and lighter than the first gen Surface and boasts more battery power.  It is now available in white






The Surface 2 now features a Full HD 1080p ClearType display which is a big upgrade from its predecessor and its full-size USB port has been upgraded to USB 3.0 for up to four times faster file transfers. Remember most tablets have mini USB ports.

Surface 2 is available in 32GB and 64GB configurations. It will start at $449.

The Surface Pro 2

The  Surface Pro 2 is an X86 based Windows 8.1 tablet powered by the new 4th Gen Intel Core i5 processor  (Haswell ) which Microsoft says provides 75% more battery life, a lot more processing power and a lot more graphics power. You can actually use this tablet to do your multimedia production and play your high end PC games.

The Surface Pro, being a normal computer can run other operating systems as well. So you don't have to be tied down to Windows. In fact some people have already managed to boot Mac OSX.



Starting at $899, Surface Pro 2 will be offered in  two configurations.

•  64GB configurations with 4 GB of RAM
•  128GB configurations with 4 GB of RAM
•  256GB and 512GB configurations with 8 GB of RAM.
