Have you noticed something about the smartphones which most of us are using nowadays, THEY ARE ALL THE SAME. This statement has never been truer than now.
All the mainstream Android brands i.e. Samsung, Sony, HTC, Motorola and Nexus
are now making smartphones that are powered by the same Chipset (engine), made
by Qualcomm. They are all using the same
displays probably made by Samsung. The same battery and running the same
software. Differences are only showing up cosmetically.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I think we have exhausted the ideas.
Back in the day, a new smartphone was a new smartphone. It would be the stuff
of legend, boys and girls. It packed new software, new design and shape and
everything was different. Honestly, I haven’t seen a new smartphone since the
Galaxy S III (2012). From that moment (and some of you could even argue that
since the coming of the iPhone), All smartphones have just become larger and
more powerful. They aren’t doing anything new. Most users (The social
networking type) don’t make use of all the extra power.

The Significance of this app on the Windows Phone Store:

The presence of this app on both the Windows store and the Windows Phone store shows a lot of growth for this platform. Why am I making a big deal about this app? You may ask. Well its simple. There was a reason it wasn't possible to have this app on Windows 8.0 or Windows Phone 8.0 . The reason is that it wasn't possible to manipulate sound and access file system especially on Windows Phone.

Audio EQ.

Apart from Nokia, No other OEM was able to use an audio EQ because they did not have the necessary access to the sound system. The audio system on Windows Phone 8.0 is so backward that even a simple thing like volume change wasn't possible via third party apps. Simply using a slider to move through an audio track was a thing of the future.

File System Access

Access to the file system in Windows Phone 8.0 could only be archived via a dream. The Email app however still needs an update because attachments are still limited to just photos. This is however better that what IOS offers.

Why Edjing?

Edjing is a turn table, mixer app available on all mobile and desktop platforms. But we shall stick to mobile. This app requires access to the music library,

Has a built in EQ.

Can play music faster or slower.

And everything else that you would expect from a turn table mixer app.

NB: All the above aren't possible with version 8.0

Edjing has been available on IOS and Android for a while. Android is like way ahead of the competition in terms of features and developer friendliness. Android has apps that can easily communicate with other apps. IOS and Windows Phone are still working on this.

Good to know that developers are actually taking advantage of these new APIs.

If you are interested in the app fins it here.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15695801872957460539noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2109528339783878382.post-74698034582088263822014-06-26T00:08:00.005+03:002014-06-26T00:08:51.086+03:00Is IOS really that different from Windows Phone

Being an advanced user and developer for all three major platforms, Android, IOS and Windows Phone, I have actually noticed that putting aside android, IOS and Windows Phone aren't so different. While Android is very much java based, IOS and Windows phone are mostly C# and C++. But let's put the programming aside and forget about Android for a while, shall we?

Before we get any further, I would like to emphasize that I am not saying that these two platforms are the same. I'm just saying that they have similar draw backs and similar strengths. We all know IOS looks way better, unless you love the live tile home screen on Windows phone which is just about it. But honestly the rest of the platform is ugly.

Of course IOS has more developer options from a developer stand point. Supports all the common things which Microsoft is intentionally holding back on Windows Phone. Has much better looking built-in apps. But how about we step away from the UI a bit and go to functionality.

IOS has all the limitations of Windows Phone. Windows Phone doesn’t have all the limitations of IOS. This means that Windows Phone is more open that IOS officially. I don’t understand why no one complains about the lack of Bluetooth file transfer in IOS. Why nobody complains about the less than average pull down notification menu (compared to Android).

Why on earth doesn’t anyone ever take apple to court for being unable to simply drag personal files onto and off of their beloved iPad. I don’t know about you guys but that iTunes Sync thing pisses me off. The lack of file management is just unacceptable. Why would you have a portable computer if you cannot manage your files?

Oh I got the answer. "Go home, manage the files with your MacBook and use them on ur iPad" . This means that anyone who owns an iDevice must own a PC or a Mac. But who complains about any of this? No body. Do you know why no one complains?

The answer is very simple. It is because the little that is done is actually done perfectly. The apps on IOS are magnificent. The openness of the OS to developers deserves a hand clap. Does anyone of you ever get the feeling that the so called vulnerability that hackers use to jail break IOS is actually intentionally left un patched by Apple so as to allow more freedom to power users. Apps that exploit the jail break may not be allowed on the App Store but you can easily install them after the jailbreak. These allow you to use Bluetooth File transfer, file managers and even change the skin completely.

What does this mean to developers? It means that the APIs which create those jailbreak exploiting apps are actually made available. I don’t think those devs actually create the APIs. That’s your food for thought, you do the dishes.

So why do we all complain and wine about all the annoyances of Windows Phone (including 8.1). Remember you can Bluetooth file transfer on Windows Phone out of the box. You can use file management at a somewhat limited level. And you can just drag and drop files on the storage device using a PC or a Mac.

Now the reason we all complain is that Microsoft has FAILED to deliver the basics. All the marketing points are Nokia. The Camera, the beautiful phones, HD microphones, etc... Its 2014 and somehow, just somehow Microsoft cannot built a functional Music App (Windows 98 could actually do this), Cannot build a browser that can upload images to Facebook.

Cannot sort out the audio engine. The apps are just horrible. Don’t blame the developers here. MS hasn’t provided the tools to build proper ones. And to add salt to the wound, it has blocked off some channels by making Windows Phone incompatible to many platforms. The list is really long and I agree we all have the right to Wine till we get Real Racing 3 on Windows Phone but IOS offers its fair share of such annoying issues.

The major difference here is that IOS offers a work around for these drawbacks while Windows Phone is so locked down that you cannot find a hole to slide a hair pin through. If you have a different opinion please share it with us via the comment box. Don’t forget to let us know which platform’s limitations you can or cannot deal with and why?
If you are still thinking Bugatti Veyron, Koenigsegg Agera or SSC tuatara, think again. There is a new kid on the block. This one packs both power, looks from a Sci Fi movie and Tech from 2020. Its the Lykan Hypersport.

The Lykan Hypersport is produced W Motors. It is the first supercar to be produced in the Middle East. Only seven of these gorgeous beats will ever be produced. The Lykan Hypersport cost US$3.4 million, making it the most expensive car in the world. Its followed by the very limited Lamborghini Veneno which costs US$4.5 million and the Maybach Exelero which costs US$8 million. The Lykan Hypersport is over $1 million more expensive than the Bugatti Veyron Supersport.

This price tag is justified by with diamonds in its headlights. The front lights are made up of titanium LED blades with 420 diamonds. Further more, the customer can choose which rubies and diamonds they want embedded in the headlights. In addition, the client can choose between a selection of rubies, diamonds, yellow diamonds, or sapphires to be integrated into the vehicle at purchase. The Lykan is available in Lykan White, Royal Red, Royal Blue or Black
Microsoft unveiled its latest iteration of the Surface, the Surface 3. This post isn't going to compare specs. its going too mainly focus on usage. Apple has arguably the most popular tablet ie the iPad and on the other side has the most popular ultra book, the 13 inch Mac Book Air. Microsoft came up with a device that fits somewhere in between the two. This was the surface Pro. This is both a tablet and a full fledged PC.

We are going to see how the latest versions of the three devices stuck up against one another in terms of usage. We want to know if a plain tablet with all its limitations is good enough for you, or you are the type that needs the full power of a laptop to get something done? And you think a middle device like the Surface can actually cover both grounds.

First of all, all three devices run completely different Operating systems. The iPad runs a mobile OS while the other two run desktop OSes. The iPad is both smaller and weaker than both the Mac and the Surface. This however makes the iPad the lightest and most portable of the three.

iPad Air

iPad Air Pros

Light , small and portable
Powerful enough to run mobile apps
Plenty of apps at the store
Plenty of battery
Accessories like keyboard available
Built in sensors like compass and gyroscope which you don't normally find on laptops .

Cons

Runs a mobile OS with a lot of power limitations
Limited Storage

Surface 3

Surface 3 Pros

Is both a tablet and ultra book
Runs desktop version of Windows 8 and therefore can run desktop apps like Photoshop
Uses input pen
Best of both worlds
PC hardware ie Core i processors and GPUs
Good battery life

Really thin and light for a full PC
Runs mobile apps
A lot more storage than iPad plus it can use external hard drives.

Cons

Windows app store still lacking in apps
A bit to heavy when being used as a tablet

MacBook Air

Mac Book Air Pros

Extremely thin and light
Runs a full desktop OS
High resolution display
Very powerful for a portable device.

Cons

Lacks a touch screen
Doesn't run mobile apps

Conclusion

Putting the OS differences a side, I think all three have there Pros and Cons. The Surface has the advantage of having both a tablet and a PC in one body and I bet you that Apple would make millions if it came up with a hybrid device like the Surface. Let us know what you think.

By now most of us have played around with Windows Phone's latest incarnation. And we pretty much know what it is capable of. I mean we knew 99% of these things way before it was even released. We all know the big list of major changes that are flooding the web as you read this post.

I'm not gonna be writing about the massive change log in WP8.1. I'm not even gonna list them down. But what I'm gonna talk about is my personal take on the whole thing. of course that's after I tell you the small things that you haven't noticed yet.

The icon animations at the top have been slowed down as you rotate your device. They take their time as they do the rotation to the new orientation.
The dialler supports few sized picture when you are making a call. Is not just the black screen any more.
The store will handle those "attention requiring" downloads automatically. You don't have to hit all of them to start re downloading again.
Facebook integration improved with larger images. In fact it looks like the actual Facebook now (But without the blue.)
Font size reduced a little in some parts of the OS e.g the Lock screen

My take on Windows Phone 8.1
It was a much needed update that sorted out a lot of issues with Windows Phone. I mean I can now now brag openly with my 920.

My biggest problem, and I'm starting to think this isn't a priority for Microsoft at all, is Music sound quality. 9/10 blogs on the web rate Windows Phones as average and sometimes below average when it comes to sound quality. And the sad truth is that they are actually right. Forget this eye candy Xbox Music, Nokia Music or whatever music. The OS still doesn't allow for third party audio engines and that is why you are not going to have those awesome music apps (The ones on Android) yet.

I really wish the settings app would get a make over. I don't know about you guys but I find it really ugly. That large font just nails the coffin locked.

If you have noticed something that you feel the world may not have noticed yet, or you want to share about a feature that made or killed your day. Let us know ..

This is what Windows 8 live tiles should have been from the start. But honestly, these are ordinary widgets disguised in monochrome. The tiles being shown off are interactive and allow the user to actually control certain aspects of the app without having to open the app.

For example the user can control the music player and view the current playlist from the tile without having to open the music app. Similarly, Email can be selected and office documents opened straight from the tile.

Quite frankly, these are ordinary Android Widgets being used. So its not something new. But at the same time its a big move for the Windows OS. And hopefully we shall be seeing this in some future version of Windows Phone as well.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15695801872957460539noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2109528339783878382.post-80711694801450932032014-04-11T17:56:00.003+03:002014-04-11T17:56:53.178+03:00iPhone 6

It seems like it was only yesterday that Apple launched the 5S. But as always, rumours of the next model are already circulating all over the blogosphere. Everything going to be discussed in this post should be taken with a pinch of salt as it is all based on leaks and rumours.

So what are we expecting from the next generation iPhone? As always we always want a bigger screen. (May be not Lumia 1520 territory), Faster chipset and a newer version of IOS. If the rumours are true, Apple is going to deliver on all the three fronts.

iPhone 6 size and Display.

The coming iPhone is rumoured to come in two sizes. Yes people you heard me right, 2 sizes. There will be a smaller 4.7 or 4.8 inch version. That's about the size of a Samsung Galaxy SIII. And a larger 5.5 or 5.7 inch version. This is Galaxy Note III territory. Apple has finally bowed to phablet pressure. Both devices are said to feature Ultra Retina displays of about 389 ppi and will be powered by Quantum Dots (QD) technology. All this will be protected by Sapphire glass which is said to be stronger than Gorilla glass.

The iPhone 6 is rumoured to feature a more curved body, thinner bezels and a much slimmer profile at about 7 mm with a camera bump like that of the latest iPod touch. So you can imagine a slimmer Galaxy S IV.

iPhone 6 Technical Specifications

The coming iPhone is going to be run iOS 8 (No details yet). It will be powered by the new A8 processor which is rumoured to be about 2.6Ghz and a much more powerful GPU. WIFI will be faster thanks to the new 5G 802.11ac chip from Broadcom. It is also said that it will feature a 10-mega pixel camera with a f/1.8 aperture.

Prepare your can of salt for this one. There are rumours about battery charging technology that will allow the phone to charge from 0% to 100% within 5 minutes.

If you are an Apple faithful, don't be shy to let us know what you are most excited about or think could be improved. Personally if all this turns out true or better, I may just jump ship.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15695801872957460539noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2109528339783878382.post-14968201465754549772014-03-30T14:37:00.000+03:002014-03-30T14:37:11.661+03:00Office for iPad

The iPad version contains a lot more features compared to the iPhone one. OneDrive is supported out of the box and its clear that Microsoft sees Office 365 as its cloud platform for taking Office from the desktop to every device, and Office for iPad is yet another step in that grand plan.

Many of us are probably wondering why there is a trend of premium apps being offered for FREE by developers. All over a sudden, an app that costs $10 is now free. Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the world of the FREEMIUM business model.

Freemium model

Freemium, word made up word that combines the words Free and Premium, was popularised by Firemonkey's Real Racing 3 mobile racing game. Premium apps used to set you back $2 to $20 depending on the app. This model was very successful and one can say the Apple App store grew from this model. When smartphones and Tablets became more popular, cheaper and more available, people became smarter. Terms like Jail Breaking and Rooting became common knowledge. Premium apps were being hacked and side loaded for free onto phones.

On the day it announced that the long awaited Real Racing 3 game was actually going to be free on both the Android Market and the App Store. Many rejoiced, The joy was however cut short when it was also announced that one had to spend real money to actually buy cars, service them, wash them, paint them, etc. It was possible to play the game without spending a coin, but this would take you years to make any progress as the game was designed to keep you spending pointlessly.

The whole idea of using real money was absurd. I personally downloaded the game, started playing it and realised, I couldn't sell my unwanted cars. This was new and is the trend now. So if you bought a car that you later didn't need, you were screwed. I also noticed that the cars would easily get damaged even if you drove on the grass. If you didn't knock any of the AIs, they would knock you instead. In short, you had to damage the car in every race and you had to spend real money fixing it. What a master plan from FireMonkeys Studios.

This wasn't all however, the plan was so perfect that the developers just decided to update the game on almost a weekly basis. More tracks, cars and races were always introduced to keep you playing on and on and on. This freemium model could very easily make you spend $1,000 within the game. And it's still being updated to this day. Don't get me wrong, its a nice game.

What is the point of all this? The point is that almost all developers have adopted this ingenious model and now release all mobile titles free of charge. FIFA 14 is one of the newest games on the mobile platform. It's says FREE but you have to do a lot of paying not just playing..

Parents have been the biggest losers in all this.. A free game is easily downloadable and then the child starts to make all sorts of in app purchases at will. By the time the parents are given feedback about their credit card expenditure, it's too late. Apple was taken to court for this. Now developers have to make sure that payment is actually restricted by password. Word of advice , don't share the password with your son.

Honestly, I would rather pay $10 and get the complete game than having to purchase $100 car packs in Asphalt 8.

Obviously hackers have already found ways of getting access to many of those in app purchases by altering the game files. This is why platforms like Windows Phone do not allow users access to the file system.

The 2014 Mobile World Congress has come and gone. Expectations were in some cases met, exceeded and in some cases not met. Various OEMs unveiled there new products, both hardware and software. A noticeable absentee was Apple which is normally absent for this occasion anyway. For this breakdown, we shall be concentrating on the major players as balance of power seems to be shifting this time round.

For the first time since the invention of sliced bread, we have high end smart devices that are all at par with each other. Samsung has always been light years away from the competition since the Galaxy S. This trend was emphasized with the Galaxy SII. From the SIII, things started to slow down. And now with the unveiling of the S5, you can say that many were not so impressed. There wasn't much improvement from its predecessor. and as a result the competition , most notably Sony has caught up and probably even surpassed Samsung. Nokia unveiled the Lumia ICON about a week before MWC and LG has always had the G2 which is still up there with the newly unveiled flagships. HTC was around for the mid range smartphones so we can safely put it at the side.

Lumia Icon vs Samsung Galaxy SV vs Sony Xperia Z2 vs LG G2

We are going to compare the new and not so new flagships from the different OEMS and see which smartphone is the right bet for your bucks. We shall not be talking about specs to much since all four of these devices are almost identical. All four smartphones are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 / 801 SOC. The 801 chipset powering the Xperia Z2 is just a turd faster than the 800 powering the G2 and ICON. All are 5 inch 1080p displays with similar pixel density. Three of out four of them are running Android. The stage is set fro a very confusing race.

Lumia Icon.

The Icon is powered by Windows Phone 8.0 (Upgradable to 8.1 ). Features Microsoft's extremely optimized and responsive live tile interface. It features a 20 MP PureView camera with Optical Image stabilization. However this model is only available on Verizon as we await the international version. Lumia 930 that should have similar specs. Fingers crossed. It is available in black and White. Only downside here is the App store which is still growing and does offer as much as the Android Market. However most common apps are available

Galaxy SV.

The Galaxy S5 is a waterproof version of the S4 with a faster chipset. It is very identical to the Note III. It has slightly larger bezels. We could blame water proofing for the increased size and weight. It however has an improved 16 MP camera that isn't optically stabilised. It is capable of 4K video capture and may be playback. It features a new finger print reader on the home button and can also monitor your heart rate with a piece of hardware near the camera's flash. The back has been redesigned and now has a kind of ached design which gives it a better look. It is available in black, white, blue and gold colors.

Xperia Z2

The Xperia Z2 is arguably the most powerful phone of 2014 as of now. It features a slightly faster snap dragon 801 SOC, has a 1/2.3-inch, 20.7MP camera sensor. 4k Video capture at 30 fps. It can let you shot slow motion video at 120 fps and do all sorts of things with the videos and photos. It is dust and water proof as usual and ships with Sony premium headphones that have digital noise cancellation.

LG G2

The G2 has been around for a while but don't get me wrong. It is still very much at par with the newly unveiled smartphones. The G2 is has very slim bezels. The entire phone is almost a display. Has a magnificent display and can play back 24 bit lossless Audio. It features a 13MP camera with optical image stabilisation.

Verdict:

So at the end of the day, it si still confusing. Nokia has a good camera, runs Windows Phone so it's the only choice for Windows Phone lovers. Samsung has a finger print scanner and a heart rate monitor making it the only option for those who are so much into security and like to keep an eye on their heart rate. You can take it for a swim. Sony has a good camera that you can use for an underwater photo shoot. (I am not responsible for any dead Z2s as a result of drowning). The G2 has extra thin bezels and supports 24bit lossless audio. A I said earlier the hardware specs are identical for these devices.

At the end of the day, choice is up to you. Although I can't help but to get this feeling that the Galaxy S5 is going to retail at pea nut price. This is where Samsung is gonna have the edge. It may as well be half the price of the rest.

Which one of the four smartphones would be more likely to grab? Tell us why you think its the best option for you?

Samsung has unveiled the its new flagship device, the Galaxy S5. The long awaited king of Android has been unleashed. It features a revamped camera, finger print scanner and a heart rate monitor. The phone also has a dimple design texture at the back which gives it a more premium look.

Galaxy S5 looks a lot the the S4

The Galaxy S5 is surprisingly a 5.1 inch smartphone. This shows that Samsung has finally reached the maximum size a smartphone can be (Thank goodness). It is 6mm taller and 3mm thincker than the S4. The bezels are also thicker. This could be due to the fact that the Galaxy S5 is both dust and water proof. Most specs are similar to the Galaxy S4. The S5 however boasts a Snapdragon 800 MSM8974-AC chipset. This puts it at par with all other top tier smartphones.

The S5 features USB 3.0, probably the first for a smartphone. and as always, it has support for almost any audio and video format you can think of. The UI has been given a slight face lift. Most notably the settings have been given a vertically scrolling grid. The finger print sensor requires you to input your finger print 8 times before you can start using it for the first time. This improves security and reduces future unlocking frustrations.
Facebook owned WhatsApp will enable voice services this year. The texting and media sharing platform will enable its users to make voice calls over the internet.

Nokia unveils to new low end Asha phones. The Asha 220 and 230. These are low cost phones for emerging markets.

Qualcomm has unveiled two new smartphone processors. The snapdragon 610/ 615 which is a 64 bit Soc for mid range devices. The 610 has 4 CPU cores while the 615 has 8 CPU cores. Both chipsets are powered by the Adreno 405 GPU. The GPU is DX 11.2 capable and supports OpenGL 3.0

The second processor is the Snapdragon 801 Soc for high end smartphones and tablets. It is an upgrade to the 800. The chipset is compatible, pin to pin with the snapdragon 800. This will make it easier for manufactures to just swap out the two. The 801 is capable a 14-percent boost in processor performance, 28-percent faster graphics, and 45-percent speedier camera sensor processing.

HTC also show cased the HTC Desire 816. It is a mid range smartphone with a 5.5-inch, 720p resolution display. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor with a clock at 1.6Ghz. It feartures from facing speakers like those of the HTC One, packs a good camera and a software experince similar to that of the HTC One.

Sony was not about to be undone as it also unveiled the Xperia Z2 tablet and smartphone.

Today at Mobile World Congress, Barcelona , the impossible happened. Nokia unveiled not one but three Android powered smartphones. Yes Android. The Nokia X, X+ and XL were officially showed to the world.

So how much do we really know about the Android OS. Most of us actually think that Android is a Google developed mobile operating system. But for those who don't know, Android is an open source software. The most popular version is polished by Google and sold to device manufactures with Google services such as Maps and play Store. So this makes it very clear, Nokia has not gone to bed with Google, it's still faithful to Microsoft.

The new devices actually run a Nokia custom version of Android 4.1. The user interface (UI) is a cross between Windows Phone and Asha OS. To the untrained eye, the new devices will actually look like low end Lumias, ie 520 and 625. They do not have access to Google services but can run 80% of Android apps. I guess the other 20% are Google specific apps like YouTube. Advanced users will however be able to side load most of the apps in the 20% category.

The Nokia X is the babiest of the three, followed by the slightly more powerful X+ and finally to the huge 5 inch XL. All models are available in black, blue, green, red, white and yellow.

So the question is why would Nokia release two devises that are going to compete directly with the low end Lumia 520. And why would you the customer buy this phone instead of a regular Android smartphone. Nokia says that the X line up is meant to transition buyers from Android to Windows Phone. That's why the UI was made to look like Windows Phone. And as for buying a regular Android smartphone, Nokia is banking on its brand which still stands strong in developing countries.

This is a smart move by Nokia because it doesn't have to play by Google's rules and it may be an eye opener to other Android OEMs that they don't really need Google to have Android. What do you guys think?

If you have an outlook.com account, you will be excited to know that Microsoft has not only re branded SkyDrive to OneDrive, It has added more apps to the menu. Word, Excel, Power Point and One Note have been added to the list.

Microsoft has ruled the desktop document processing world via its Microsoft Office application. This application is so part of everyday usage that most people actually think it's packaged with Windows.

When it comes to online work, the situation has been a little different. Google docs have been for long the preferred online document processing application.

Microsoft's online office applications have always been available but were hidden. You could access them if you wanted to edit a Word or Excel document from your outlook email or SkyDrive. They are now displayed on the menu and are as functional as there desktop counterparts. The applications provide the added advantage on online storage and the ability to easily use online content such as templates. The only draw back is the processing speed as all the processing is done online. Your internet speed will also be a huge determinant when it comes to the experience.

The apps seem to be nicely compatible to all the major web browsers. And best of all, it's FREE. All you need is an account. This is a big plus for Microsoft as it seems to actually be getting its decisions right this time around from a consumer point of view. But I feel they are a little bit to late for the party. This is something that should have been done as soon as Google docs were up. What do you guys think about the timing of this update.

If you have used Windows Phone, you will have noticed the utterly disorganised and not so good looking Settings Menu that is NOT organised in any order, By this I mean neither alphabetically nor categorically. I worked out a simple idea that can solve some of these issues.

Original Settings menu

Its is not only disorganised, It is ugly. Probably the ugliest part of Windows Phone that you just cannot avoid as you always have to visit it to simply turn on your WIFI radio.

The concept used is based on closed tabs which open when tapped to give show the settings details. Some settings which just require an OFF an ON button such as Screen Rotation, provide the button at the surface, so you don't have to go into the details

The images show a Light theme and a Dark theme version of the app. All graphics are perfect rectangles without rounded corners to conform with the Windows Phone design regulations. No gradients are used. Only flat colors. The toggle switches have been replaced by buttons which are grey when off and are of the theme color when on.

The renders don't sort the menu in any order either but that wasn't their main intention.
If anyone of you has a cousin working at MIcrosoft's Windows Phone division, do us all a favor and pass this on. I have looked through all of Windows Phone 8.1 leaks but nothing seems to address this issue.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15695801872957460539noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2109528339783878382.post-32893934131197827922014-02-11T04:40:00.000+03:002014-02-11T04:44:29.723+03:00Koenigsegg teases 1340bhp hyper-Agera

Microsoft is going to change its cloud storage service name from the well known SkyDrive to OneDrive. This is mainly due to the fact that the word Sky is already registered by Sky TV. ie Sky News, Sky Sports and the rest. The new name, OneDrive, is meant to signify that you can have one storage option for all your media and have access to it from any of your devices ie Windows PC, Windows Phone, Xbox and even non Microsoft devices like Android and iPhoneAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15695801872957460539noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2109528339783878382.post-46449042304426824042014-01-15T01:20:00.001+03:002014-01-15T01:34:58.861+03:00Lumia Black: Hidden Changes

Lumia Black (Windows Phone 8 GDR3 + a bit of Nokia) is the third generation of WP8. It is something that most of us already know about. But do we really know about it? Unless you actually own a Lumia 1020 or a 1520, you are most likely going to ask yourself if it's worth the update. The web is smeared with GDR3 change log. check it out after the break

Support for an extra column of tiles for 1080p screens

Support for Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 soc

Improved photo algorithms for the 1020 and the 1520.

Ability to close apps from task switcher.

Nokia Camera App + Nokia Story Teller App + Driving mode App

Rotation Lock.

Glance screen

Bluetooth 4.0

So the big question is, why would Microsoft rebuild the entire OS just to improve the image quality and add a screen rotation lock. Let's be honest, Nokia Camera and Story teller are just apps which could also run with Amber or GDR2 if available.

If you own a Lumia 920 or 925 and you already have Nokia Camera but are not going to benefit from the image processing algorithms of the 1020 and 1520, why should you bother to update? Honestly Windows Phone must be so rigid that it requires an entire rebuild and recompile in order to make the slightest of changes.

I understand that most of Windows Phone is built all the way down at the core OS for security reasons but this is slowing down development and limiting developers. Some features shouldn't be at the core.

The unmentioned changes I have noticed with Lumia black

I have been running Lumia Black on a Lumia 920 for 2 days and so far I have only noticed that the Music engine has changed a bit in terms of playback. The music has more bass even with a flat EQ. The Dolby effect is much more improved. It is actually usable now. The loudness EQ is still buggy. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

Conclusion

For an OS that MS said was flexible enough to run on lots of CPU core, I think this was a lot of work just to increase the core count by 2. This should have been the version where Windows Phone catches up to iOS and then catch up with Android in version 8.1. Overall the experience seems smoother, may be that's my psychologically thing. And may be they improved on core features like memory management and the likes but all this is assumption. Verdict, not impressed.

If you work for Microsoft or know someone who actually works in MS, Please explain to us why the OS needed to be rebuilt for just 2 or 3 changes. I mean the browser still doesn't support upload of photos when using Facebook.

This is something you have seen on a couple of Mercedes Benz vehicles. But what does it actually mean. Is it just another fancy jargon for AWD or 4WD. 4MATIC is actually more complex, or should I say smarter than an ordinary AWD system.

Conventional AWD systems allow the driver to select which pair of wheels he wants to use, the front, rear or all 4 wheels. The 4MATIC system uses a computer to determine how much power to give the tires depending on the situation. For example you get more power to the front wheels when on high speed. You get more power to the rear wheels when in fast corners. etc..

For starters Happy 2014. The year has started off on a good note for the nerds among us. The CES is a consumer electronics and technology trade show that takes place every January in Las Vegas, Nevada.
All those companies that I'm sure you are familiar with, come to this show with all there prototype and concept products which will be hitting the market in future. A lot is going on but I will only hit on the breath taking, jaw-dropping products that have been unveiled.

BMW unveils self driving car

BMW has unveiled a self driving car platform. This platform, known as Active Assist that's been built into a new prototype car, is a series of control systems that allow the car to react to fluctuating grip levels and bring the car back under control precisely, automatically and without driver input. It does this by both braking individual wheels and adjusting steering input while monitoring road conditions using lidar, radar, ultrasound and optical cameras.

The technology also has an app that is fully compatible with Samsung's Galaxy Gear. The app delivers the BMW i3's remaining range, battery charge level and any departure times you've entered into the app, plus whether or not the doors, windows or sunroof are open.

The car has auto parking systems that park the car for you. All you have to do it let it know that you want to park. It will automatically determine a space big enough for it and will do the parking for you. The car can also auto drive in traffic jam by using sensors at the front and back of the car to maintain distance from other cars and automatically makes slight steering adjustments to stay in lane.

The long awaited successor of the best-selling Lamborghini in history, the Gallardo is here. Say hello to the Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4, The Huracán looks more of a baby Aventador than a Gallardo. But who care. It's way hotter.

So what’s the big deal, you may ask?

The Huracán LP 610-4 follows the tradition of being named after a bull. According to Sant’Agata. Huracán’ is a Spanish Conte de la Patilla breed of bull, ‘known for his outstanding courage and attack.

The exterior hexagonal theme design, says one word Lamborghini. Its looks like a fusion between the Aventador and the Gallardo. More of a Reventon actually. It has new lighting with prettier LED accents. The head lamps are gorgeous.

Gallardo LP 570. (The replaced model)

The replaced Gallardo featured about 570 bhp as standard so this new baby has been given more power, courtesy of the new 601 bhp, V10 engine. The car is about 30 kg lighter and for that matter can hit a top speed of 202 mph. Lamborghini has fitted the Huracán with ceramic brakes as standard for better handling.

The Lambo features a new seven-speed twin-clutcher LDF (Lamborghini Doppia Frizione) transmission and therefore accelerates faster than a Ferrari 458 Italia, matching the Porsche 911 Turbo.

We’ll see the Lamborghini Huracán at the Geneva motor show in March, before it goes on sale in Spring 2014 starting from an expected price of £200,000.
